Job Summary
This role is responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient operation of all mechanical equipment within the port terminal. The primary focus is performing advanced maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair on critical systems, including Quay Cranes (QC), Rubber Tyre Gantry (RTG) cranes, and other essential machinery. The incumbent will work in close collaboration with a wider team of managers, engineers, technicians, and maintenance staff to uphold the highest standards of operational readiness and safety.
Key Responsibilities
- Mechanical Equipment Maintenance: Execute and oversee routine maintenance and complex repair tasks on a diverse range of heavy mechanical equipment, including Quay Cranes (QC), Rubber Tyre Gantry (RTG) cranes, and other port-related machinery, to ensure peak performance and extend service life.
- Equipment Reliability: Identify, track, and support reliability improvement projects according to project milestones. Thoroughly analyze equipment breakdown reports and implement effective corrective actions during planned maintenance.
- Troubleshooting and Diagnostics: Rapidly identify and diagnose mechanical failures and malfunctions by utilizing specialized testing equipment, technical manuals, and deep personal expertise. Work with the maintenance team to engineer and implement lasting solutions.
- Preventive Maintenance: Develop, implement, and refine comprehensive preventive maintenance (PM) schedules for all mechanical assets to proactively minimize downtime and prevent unexpected, costly breakdowns.
- Safety Compliance: Strictly follow and enforce all established safety protocols and standards during the execution of maintenance tasks, ensuring the safety of all personnel and the integrity of the equipment.
- Parts and Inventory Management: Oversee and maintain an optimized inventory of essential spare parts and tools, processing orders for replacements as required to guarantee continuous availability for all repair and maintenance activities.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate, detailed, and up-to-date records of all maintenance activities, inspections, repairs performed, and spare parts consumed. Prepare regular reports on maintenance tasks and propose recommendations for future improvements.
- Collaboration: Work in partnership with other managers, engineers, technicians, and maintenance personnel, providing expert technical support, sharing knowledge, and ensuring seamless and efficient terminal operations.
- Emergency Response: Be prepared to respond to emergency maintenance situations with urgency and expertise, acting decisively to minimize equipment downtime during critical 24/7 operational periods.
- Training: Remain current with the latest advancements in mechanical technology, systems, and maintenance methodologies by actively participating in relevant training programs to enhance skills and knowledge.
- Role Replacement: Fulfill any other duties as assigned by a superior to achieve departmental and sectional objectives, including preparing warranty claim reports and conducting performance evaluations (PMDS) for subordinate staff.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree or Professional Degree in Engineering (Mechanical / Mechatronic).
- In-depth knowledge and hands-on experience with the mechanical and hydraulic systems of port equipment or similar heavy machinery (e.g., brakes, gearboxes, wire ropes).
- A minimum of 10 years of relevant working experience, with at least 3 years spent in a leadership or supervisory capacity.
- Demonstrable, hands-on experience in the maintenance and repair of heavy mechanical equipment, ideally within a Container Port Terminal setting.
- A strong, comprehensive understanding of mechanical systems and components. (Direct experience with structure inspection is a significant advantage).
- Thorough knowledge of safety regulations and industry best practices within a container port terminal or similar heavy industrial environment.
- Exceptional, proven skills in troubleshooting and diagnosing complex mechanical problems.
- Physical capability to work effectively in all weather conditions and in physically demanding situations.
- High-level proficiency in the use of industrial-grade hand and power tools.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills.
- Must be willing to work in shifts and respond to on-call emergencies outside of standard working hours.
