Mechanical Engineer
Job Description:
Job Title: Mechanical Design Engineer
Location: Singapore
Job Type: Full-time
About the Opportunity
Our client is a cutting-edge robotics startup developing a next-generation, general-purpose humanoid robot. They are seeking their founding Mechanical Design Engineer to take a pivotal, hands-on role in bringing this vision to life.
This is a high-ownership, individual contributor role where you will be responsible for the entire mechanical design lifecycle. You will own the conception, CAD modeling, and industrialization of core robotic components. You'll translate early concepts into robust, production-ready designs, guide prototype builds, and partner with suppliers to ramp tooling and volume manufacturing.
Key Responsibilities
- Concept & CAD Modeling: Lead the conceptual and detailed 3D CAD modeling of all mechanical components, including complex parts (e.g., plastics, sheet-metal, die-cast) and multi-body assemblies. CATIA is the primary tool.
- Engineering Analysis: Perform advanced analysis, including Finite Element Analysis (FEA) (stress, thermal, modal) and kinematic simulations to validate stiffness, strength, and lifetime requirements.
- Prototyping & Iteration: Drive rapid prototyping cycles, overseeing 3D printing, CNC machining, and hands-on fit-check assemblies to quickly test and iterate on designs.
- Production & DFM: Lead Design for Manufacturing (DFM) reviews with contract manufacturers and tooling partners. Refine designs to optimize for cost, cycle time, and quality at scale.
- 2D Documentation: Create and own all production-ready 2D engineering drawings, including the precise application of GD&T and critical inspection call-outs for quality assurance.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work daily with electrical, firmware, and validation teams to seamlessly integrate mechanical systems with sensors, wiring harnesses, and PCBA enclosures.
- Test & Validation: Define mechanical test protocols, analyze failure modes (FMEA), and iterate on designs based on rigorous test data and reliability metrics.
Required Qualifications (Must-Haves)
- Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Design, or a related field.
- Experience: A minimum of 3+ years of hands-on mechanical design experience for high-complexity electromechanical products (e.g., robotics, aerospace, automotive, complex consumer electronics).
- CAD Expertise: Expert-level proficiency in CATIA (V5/V6) for both detailed part modeling and large, multi-body assembly management.
- Manufacturing Processes: A proven track record of designing parts for mass production using plastic injection molding, sheet-metal fabrication, and die-casting.
- Technical Fundamentals: Deep, practical knowledge of GD&T and the creation of formal 2D manufacturing drawings.
- Analysis: Hands-on experience running FEA simulations and using the results to make critical, data-driven design decisions.
- Communication: Excellent communication skills, with the ability to drive alignment with external suppliers, internal engineering teams, and leadership.
Preferred Skills (Nice-to-Have)
- Scripting or automation skills in Python (to streamline CAD tasks or data analysis).
- Familiarity with MATLAB for system-level modeling or tolerance stack-ups.
- Prior experience in robotics, automation, or wearable systems where tight tolerances and ergonomics are critical.
- Deep knowledge of plastics engineering (material selection, shrinkage, property optimization).
- Hands-on experience with rapid prototyping tools (3D printers, laser cutters, CNC mills).
How to Apply
Interested candidates are invited to submit their resume and portfolio (if available), highlighting their experience with CATIA and high-complexity electromechanical systems.
